Eurovision nightGot myself some ice cream and will be making myself compfy on the sofa so I'm ready for the big, glittery, horrible music, camp, pointless politics, drama that is eurovision. It never disappoints me.

The Echo chamber dilemmaThe promise of the Internet was that unlimited information and experiences would draw us together. But instead it seems to have driven us apart.
For years I've observed this behavior but haven't been able to vocalize it correctly. Originally I called the behavior of collective opinions as "the hive mentality" of the Internet. But that wasn't exactly right and I often got called out on it. The most prominent example was when I made a comic about a guy disagreeing with opinions and being shouted at till he remained quiet, eventually fading into the background with everyone else. The consensus of that comic was that if you disagree with someone you aren't bullied into not speaking, but instead are free to go someplace else where people who do agree with you exist. And you know what? That wasn't what i was trying to convey, but is sadly true. The Internet is not a hive mind. It's many tiny pocket echo chambers of mutual agreements.

Well, I said to myself 'when I get to 1,000 pageviews, I'll write something in the journal'.
The 1,000 views just sort of came and went yesterday without my noticing!

A wee bit about myself then; been an artist of one kind or another since around the early '80's, when I produced illustrations for the then burgeoning computer games market. Haven't really stopped learning and - hopefully - developing my skills in various fields since.
It was only thanks to 'Stumble Upon' that I came across deviantART back in april 2010, and I was immediately blown away by the quality and variety of the work on here!
As a bit of an 'old fart'- I'm no spring chicken! - I hadn't realised just how much things digital had moved on in the art world! So I just had to fire up my old, rather dusty copy of Bryce, and get to work - haven't looked back since. Have to thank DeviantVicky [link] for her excellent 3D tutorials, and general air of encouragement!

Also got pulled into the wonderful world of fractal art, both on dA and FractalForums.com, and started exploring that area too - discovered a great program, Mandelbulber [link] by the very talented Krzysztof Marczak

[link]. Have now become totally hooked on exploring the realistic glimpses into the fractal 'hinterland' it offers!
So, all in all I'm very happy to be here, and enjoying 'meeting' such like minded, talented people as your good selves!
